I worked in the public schools in Rocky River, Ohio after graduating from BGSU with a BS in Education. I taught 4th & 6th grades, and later worked as a preschool teacher in a church setting. My husband’s career in health care administration moved us to many different states. Rather than trying to keep my teaching certificate current I opted to become a volunteer DCE in four different denominations: UCC, Disciples, RCA, & Presbyterian, mostly smaller churches. I am currently “retired” and living in Port Clinton, Ohio for six months (April to October) and La Crescenta, CA (L.A. suburb) for 6 months (October - April).
I am a GenOn Ministries Board of Director, finishing my last term after 13 years on the Board. I write the Parent’s Column for their High Vision Newsletter. I was a writer for their Worship 4 Life curriculum and their Family ‘Round the Table series. I founded the Parent Education program called ”Family At Heart”, at 1st Presbyterian Church, South Bend, IN. I currently serve on the Children’s Ministry Committee at La Crescenta Presbyterian Church, in La Crescenta, CA.
I have 5 grandchildren, two of which also live in La Crescenta and the other three are in Sussex, Wisconsin. Intergenerational ministry has always been one of my passions. I have served on two other boards: Mercy Education Project in Detroit, MI and United Cerebral Palsy’s Board of Governors for Southern, CA in Los Angeles. I am married to Ed Carlson, retired Director of Hospitals for Kaiser Permanente’s Southern California Region and retired COO for Trinity Health, Novi, MI. We are celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary next year. Family is very important to me and we have two sons, Craig & Andrew.
